Angband The forces of Morgoth, the Orcs, the Balrogs, dragons, and other evil creatures. Angband is a fortress in the north of Beleriand. It was built in the Ered Engrin, the Iron Mountains. Sauron used to be in command of the fortress, while Morgoth was at Udûn, even farther north. Angband was only an outpost to guard Udûn, but when it was destroyed, Morgoth came back to Angband. The faction of Angband is unlike any other faction there ever was or has been. Mordor is to Angband as a stone is to a house. An uncountable force of Orcs, Balrogs, dragons, vampires, wolves and worse, lurks beneath the fortress, in the Hells of Iron.
Noldor The elves of the house of Finwë, skilled in craft. The Noldor were originally called the Tatyar, since they were the followers of Tata, one of the first three elves. They, under King Finwë, reached Valinor, and when Finwë was slain and the silmarils of his son Fëanor were stolen, came back to Beleriand against the will of the Valar. They waged unceasing war upon Morgoth, until at last, they were utterly defeated.
The faction of the Noldor is the hardiest and most warlike of the Eldar. Ranging from archers, to spearmen, to swordsmen, to cavalry, to skirmishing cavalry, the Noldor are the ultimate lords of war among the Eldar.
Edain The men of Beleriand, valiant and strong. The Edain were of three different houses, the house of Bëor, the house of Haleth, and the house of Marach (better known as the house of Hador). The houses of Bëor and Hador served the houses of Finarfin and Fingolfin respectively. The Edain originally came to Beleriand from the East. The house of Bëor and the house of Hador spoke alike, but the house of Haleth was estranged from them, sundered in speech, until King Finrod taught them to speak Sindarin.
The faction of the Edain includes men from all the three houses. Being valiant, strong, and true, the Edain are loyal and die-hard friends of the Eldar. They have a wide range of warriors, men who would make living walls out of themselves to protect whoever they serve.
Naugrim The dwarves of Middle-earth, hardiest of all the free peoples. The Naugrim were the first of the children to be created, but they were not children of Ilúvatar. Aulë the Smith created them in the hardiest design he could think of. When he created them, Ilúvatar rebuked him for his impatience, but allowed him to keep the dwarves. he breathed life into the figures Aulë had made. Then Aulë placed the dwarves in far sundered places in Arda, and the awoke after the Eldar.
The faction of the Naugrim is the most skilled in crafts of making in all the free peoples. The Naugrim have a wide variety of tough soldiers, and have amazing siege engines.
